eCommerce Success Begins With Proper Planning

The hardest thing to do is to fly a plane while rebuilding it. Many #retailers and #brands feel like that every day about their businesses.

How can I create more space to innovate when I have no more time in the day? And no margin to do it?

Sometimes, an outside perspective can help. I work with companies all the time to audit their people, process, technology, and service partners to ensure that the goals of the management and Board match the company's actions, and help them chart a new path towards smart growth.

The idea of setting clear expectations and phases to the journey are essential. If anyone tells you that you need a "big bang" approach, they are trying to sell you a bill of goods.

Phase 1 usually entails assessment and benchmarking.

What most people miss in Phase one is "What good looks like". For your customers. For your investors. For your employees.

Phase 2 moves into recommendations and directions.

What most people miss in planning is "What should I stop doing?" In the face of time pressures, sometimes 10 points of margin is staring you in the face, you just don't have the time to pick your head up and see it.

Phase 3 moves into phased implementation.

What most people miss here is setting up phases at all. Instead they are looking for a single silver bullet. #digitaltransformation #ecommerce
