Facebook's massive eCommerce opportunity

Facebook has a huge eCommerce opportunity in front of it.

Even if you believe their execution might fall flat. Facebook has more consumer data than almost any other provider. They are one of the best sources of leads for eCommerce brands who would like to advertise to people who may not already be looking for a solution that a brand solves.

Instagram is one of the greatest discovery marketplaces ever invented. Their data assets are enviable. If they are not able to execute on the commerce opportunity in front of them, it would be a shame.

So that is the path. Ultimately, it's how so many Shopify brands are launched and found today.

So either these companies are going to fight or partner, and we will see how this plays out in the next few years.

Personally, I think you will see a kind of hands-off agreement between the two. Even though Shopify will experiment with discovery, and Facebook will experiment with commerce, neither will completely disrupt the other.
