Stripe is Entrenching Itself Inside Commerce

Increasingly I think Stripe is getting leverage on the eCommerce industry. Just signed a big deal with Salesforce Commerce Cloud. It is well-known they power Shop Pay.

They just launched an independent checkout product - Stripe Checkout.

Attach Stripe Checkout to a CMS front-end and you have a pretty darn great content-rich eCommerce experience.

There is more coming here. Just wait until Stripe goes public.

Or, as Sam Mendelsohn suggests, “Just wait until Shopify decides they don’t need Stripe anymore.” He went on to say he “heard someone say recently Shopify isn’t an e-commerce platform, it is a payment processing company” which is an interesting take.

Karen Baker adds “At a certain point Stripe and Shopify could conflict. That’s going to be interesting to watch play out as the 2 CEOs are friends. I suspect there is a long term game plan here, i.e. one will power the other. So Stripe will either have to concede other platforms, or - if no game plan - concede the Shopify relationship.”

Stripe does an excellent job with online payments, and continues to improve their product and service. Dana Lorton agrees, and thinks they’re continuing to head in a strong direction, saying “The new independent checkout feature is huge. They are positioning themselves to be the rabbit that the dogs chase.”

Let’s see.
